LOS ANGELES, Calif. - Adam Wainwright of the St. Louis
Cardinals hit Dodgers star Yasiel Puig with a pitch in
the third inning, triggering a bench-clearing scrum in
Game 1 of the National League Division Series.It was 92
degrees at gametime, and things quickly got hot at Dodger
Stadium on Friday.Puig led off and was hit in the upper
left arm with Los Angeles trailing 1-0. He went to take
first base and teammate Adrian Gonzalez began jawing with
Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina.Molina grew especially
heated and soon both benches and bullpens emptied,
creating a scrum at home plate. There was pushing,
shoving and yelling, but no punches were thrown. Puig
later gave Wainwright a friendly pat as he took his
base.Last year, Cardinals pitcher Joe Kelly hit Hanley
Ramirez in the ribs in the NL championship series opener,
limiting the Dodgers star for the rest of the matchup.
The teams traded hit by pitches earlier this season.

review a collision at the plate, and the umpire obliged.
The call was confirmed, denying Cleveland the go-ahead
run, but the Indians manager appreciated how smoothly the
new replay process went. The Indians later delivered on
their chances in the ninth, with Nyjer Morgan hitting a
go-ahead sacrifice fly against new Athletics closer Jim

and what you arent," Francona said. "I just asked him if
hed look because I thought maybe he had gotten there a
little too early. ... I appreciated him checking."
Oaklands Josh Donaldson hit a single off the top of the
wall near the 400-foot sign in centre in the eighth, but
Daric Barton held up at second waiting to tag in case the
ball was caught, and the As failed to score the go-ahead

minor league game. He was set to go to Triple-A Columbus
on Tuesday, and Francona expected a meeting when the team
