HOUSTON -- The Chicago White Sox couldnt get anything
going early on Friday night against the Houston Astros.
One big swing by Adam Dunn changed that and the White Sox
cruised to a 7-2 win over the Houston Astros. Dunn hit a
three-run home run and Conor Gillaspie added two RBIs to
lead the White Sox. The White Sox trailed by two and had
managed just one hit off of Collin McHugh (2-2) through
the five innings before Dunn launched his soaring homer
into the second deck in right field with one out in the
sixth to put Chicago on top. "That guy it just seemed
like he was cruising," White Sox manager Robin Ventura
said. "He was around the zone, a good curveball and thats
what really kept everybody off-balance. You just stick
with it. Dunns homer ... but then after that we put some
stuff together to put it away." White Sox starter Jose
Quintana (2-3) allowed two runs on seven hits in five
innings for his first win since April 8. Hes pitched well
between wins, but Chicago has had trouble scoring in his
starts. "Hes done a lot for us to keep us in games and he
hasnt won any games," Ventura said. "Hes notorious for
coming out with a no-decision, so it was nice for us to
get some runs after that and get him a win, because hes
done a lot of work for us that doesnt go in the win
column all the time for him." Dunn was happy he could
help Quintana get a win after he had three no-decisions
and three losses since his last victory. Quintana has
been plagued by no-decisions in his career and set an
American League record last season with 17. "It seems
like every single game that he pitches we cant
offensively get it going," Dunn said. "Then when we do,
its when hes out of the game. He obviously wasnt as sharp
as he has been lately or even since hes been up. But
getting him that win was big." Tyler Flowers had an RBI
in the sixth and Gillaspie drove in two runs with a
double in Chicagos three-run eighth inning. Rookie George
Springer and Jason Castro each had an RBI for the Astros.
Chris Carter added a double and a single to extend his
hitting streak to a season-high six games. He has
improved in May after hitting just .153 in April. McHugh
allowed four runs on three hits, striking out seven in 5
1-3 innings for his second straight loss after starting
the season 2-0. "Coming in, from the get-go, I knew my
stuff was good, but my command was spotty at best,"
McHugh said. "And it came back to bite me in that
inning." Dunn, who was 0 for 11 before his home run,
added a double in the ninth inning. "Hes got power with
anybody in the league," Ventura said. "If he gets it its
going to go. Its good. Hes walking and hitting balls hard
so its a good night for him." Jonathan Villar and Jose
Altuve hit consecutive singles to start Houstons fifth
inning and Villar advanced to third on an error by Dayan
Viciedo on Altuves hit. Villar scored on a groundout by
Springer to put the Astros up 1-0. Castros two-out single
made it 2-0. Matt Dominguez singled to put runners at
first and second, but Quintana retired Jesus Guzman on a
liner to centre to limit the damage. Alejandro De Aza
singled to start the third inning for Chicagos first hit
and Moises Sierra walked with one out. McHugh then
retired nine of the next 10 batters, with the only
baserunner coming on a walk by Flowers with two outs in
the fifth. Gillaspie walked with one out in the sixth
before McHugh plunked Jose Abreu. Dunns sixth homer of
the season and the 446th of his career came next to give
Chicago the lead. After the homer by Dunn, Viciedo
doubled to chase McHugh. He was replaced by Josh Zeid,
who intentionally walked De Aza with two outs before the
RBI single by Flowers. NOTES: The series continues
Saturday when Houstons Jarred Cosart opposes Hector
Noesi. ... Ventura planned to give Abreu a day off to
rest his sore left ankle. But Abreu didnt want to sit out
so Ventura played him at designated hitter Friday night.
Looney-Warriors-Jersey/">Kevon Looney Jersey . For
the Athletics, hes extremely important at the top of the
order, especially with Coco Crisp hurting. Jaso drove in
three runs Sunday night, helping Scott Kazmir and Oakland
beat the Texas Rangers 9-3.

After missing 20 games as a rookie a year ago,
Valanciunas - like the Raptors as a whole - has been
fortunate to be in good health this season. As he spoke
about it, the Raptors sophomore centre scanned the room
for wood to knock on. "It is disappointing because we
lost today so thats the worst part of the day," said
Valanciunas, who left Tuesdays game with a lower-back
sprain in the third quarter, missing the rest of Torontos

Hawks.Landover, MD (SportsNetwork.com) - Michael
Brockers, Janoris Jenkins, Alec Ogletree and Greg
Robinson were in the St. Louis Rams starting lineup.
Robert Griffin III was still on the Washington Redskins
bench, at least for the first 58 minutes. Shaun Hill
tossed a pair of touchdown passes to Jared Cook and the
Rams blanked the Redskins 24-0 on Sunday afternoon to
record their second straight shutout win. After Tavon
Austins 78-yard punt return staked the Rams to a 24-0
advantage late in the third quarter, chants of RGIII,
RGIII, RGIII, reverberated throughout FedEx Field.
Griffin, though, never got the call until two minutes
remained after Colt McCoy departed with a neck strain.
Brockers, Jenkins, Ogletree and Robinson were among the
slew of players the Rams received from their 2012
blockbuster trade with Washington, along with Stedman
Bailey, Zac Stacy, Isaiah Pead and Rokevious Watkins. St.
Louis sent its 2012 second overall pick to the Redskins
in exchange for three first round picks and a second-
round selection. Washington had the sixth overall pick in
the 2012 NFL Draft. The Redskins made the gamble in the
hopes that it would solve their franchise quarterback
woes. It reaped early benefits as Griffin won the 2012
NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year Award and led Washington
to a 10-6 mark and an NFC East crown. But the Baylor
product has suffered a pair of knee injuries since,
including a torn ACL in Washingtons 2012 Wild Card
playoff loss to the Seattle Seahawks, and has struggled
to adapt his game the last two seasons. Griffin suffered
a dislocated ankle in Week 2 of this season and returned
in Week 9 at Minnesota, but was benched after a trio of
poor performances in favor of McCoy, who was 20-of-32 for
199 yards with two interceptions Sunday. Hill was 16-of-
22 for 213 yards, while Cook hauled in four passes for 61
yards for St. Louis (6-7), which posted back-to-back
shutoouts for the first time since 1945.dddddddddddd The
Rams blanked Oakland 52-0 last Sunday. Pretty impressive,
Rams coach Jeff Fisher said of the shutouts. I look at
this as we can play better. The defense recorded seven
sacks, two interceptions and eight tackles for loss in
the triumph. Pierre Garcon tallied nine receptions for 95
yards for the Redskins (3-10), who have dropped five
games in a row. These guys are trying, we just got
outcoached and outplayed today, Washington coach Jay
Gruden said. Rams safety Rodney McLeod intercepted McCoy
over the middle on Washingtons opening drive and St.
Louis held the ball for 7:20 on its first touch, but came
away with no points. The Rams drove the ball to the
Washington 22, but an illegal use of hands and offensive
pass interference penalty on consecutive plays pushed the
ball back to the 42 and St. Louis wound up punting. St.
Louis found the end zone on its second drive when Cook
hauled in a 35-yard TD pass early in the second. Greg
Zuerlein missed the extra point and then pushed a 28-yard
field goal to the right on the Rams next trek. Zuerlein
also missed a 38-yard try on the final play of the half.
Zuerlein finally split the uprights on a 34-yarder to cap
the Rams 13-play, 61-yard march to begin the third,
making it 9-0. Baileys 36-yard catch-and-run to the 1
converted a 3rd-and-12 on the Rams next touch and Hill
flipped a 1-yard TD pass to Cook on the very next play.
St. Louis then added two more points when Johnny Hekker
tossed a two-point conversion to Cory Harkey on a fake
field goal, extending the margin to 17-0. Game Notes
These two teams played in Week 2 of the 2012 campaign
after the trade that April, with the Rams limiting
Griffin to 206 yards passing in a 31-28 victory ... Tre
Mason carried the ball 20 times for 66 yards for the Rams
... St. Louis outgained Washington 329-206.
