Hello!
After returning from a show in Omaha, Neb. I was surprized to see so many subs! The bad part was the fact that the average IPMS judge does not know about correct colours of U-booten. I saw one U-boot which was done very nicely, but had the large mid boot and RED HULL!!! I agree with Dougie Martindale... There is no evidence of ANY war time U-boat with a RED HULL!!!! Also, most judges know little of the life of the U-boats as far as painting during the boots life. When a U-boot returned from a partol, one of the things done was to repaint required areas that needed paint. So what you had was a boot with a patch work of light and dark areas of paint. They usually did not repaint the entire boot. They did not have the time or the resourses to do that unless the boat was intended to recieve an entire different colour ei from dunlelgrau 51 to slickgrau 58 as with U-47.
