If you have read the biography , post here what you tought of it  .

My favorite part was when Herr Prien got into Scapa Flow and his journey in . And all of the confusion he caused . Lots of dark humor when the brits start looking for aircraft  . Before I read this I taught only the Deutsches Panzer Korps were capable of such attacks .

Hello,

I thought Weymar's book (released as Prien's autobiography) was interesting since, although he didn't write it, Prien himself did at least contribute to it. But the action scenes in Scapa Flow are a joke.  Weymar - or someone at the Propaganda Ministry - had a fertile imagination all right. Some parts were simply made up to entertain the German public and raise the profile of the hero Prien.  Certainly many young German boys reading the book in 1940 would have been taken in by this chapter, and attracted to the Ubootwaffe.  So I find the false action scenes to be amusing.

A far more accurate book, and a better read, is Enemy Submarine by Wolfgang Frank. It is well worth finding.  Snyder's book and Weaver's book on the Scapa raid (see bibliography section) are also particularly good. Steer clear of  Black Saturday by Alexander McKee, though.  That book is fit only for the recycle bin.

Cheers,

Dougie
