A very good idea. Personally, I love counterfactuals.

I've one for you all. In early October 1939 the Home Fleet sailed to try and attack the Gneisenau group. When they returned - not having engaged the Gneisenau - Admiral Forbes decided to disperse the Home Fleet rather than return the fleet to Scapa Flow. His decision, made due to Scapa's vulnerability to Luftwaffe air attack, effectively robbed Prien of more valuable targets.

What if Forbes had decided to return the whole of the Home Fleet to Scapa instead of dispersing it elsewhere? The U 47 would have had the battlecruisers Hood and Repulse, the battleships Rodney and Nelson and the aircaft carrier Furious to shoot at rather that the aging Royal Oak. If so, then Prien might have sunk one or two of these much more valuable capital ships.

The propaganda value of the Royal Oak sinking was great, but it would have been even greater if the Hood, the pride of the Royal Navy, had been sunk instead. The Bismarck-Hood encounter would never have happened as a result.

Any thoughts?

maybe if these ships are sunk less help would go to the med and as a result malta is taking.

please be easly on me if this is utter rubbish. i dont know much about navel history thats why im here to learn
