Basel World 2018 Breitling Navitimer Super 8, inspired by World War II stopwatch

The new Breitling Navitimer Super 8 was inspired by the Reference 637 stopwatch, which was used by bomber pilots and crew during the Second World War. This reference 637 is attached to the pilot's thigh for optimum readability and ease of use. The crown is located on the left side of the case, its protruding size and position means that the pilot's hand - even wearing gloves - can be easily manipulated.
Since the Reference 637 is tied to the thigh, the crown is at the top of the case. The thruster is used to activate the counting and countdown functions to enable the pilot to perform tasks accurately. This rather unknown military reference, produced by the Breitling Huit division, is now the basis for the new Navitimer 8 series.
The new Breitling Navitimer Super 8 is inspired by this large chronograph, but not a copy of this antique aviation tool. It is first a watch that represents time, not a stopwatch. It does not have any other instructions, regular 3 hands - H, M, S. However, whether you look at the situation in this table or the overall idea, it has some strong similarities.
